What is Queer Animation?
Queer Animation traces the history and provides information about the often overlooked queer representation found in animation. From the obscure to the mainstream, this digital archive serves as a way to map how queer representation has changed and evolved during its century-long history. This Substack provides a bit of a peek under the hood as the website continues to develop and prepare for its June 2023 launch.

Who created this?
Queer Animation is created by Esther Bley1. With over ten years of researching queer history under their belt and a love for animation, she is excited to put her skills to use and create an archive for all those interested in queer animation.
Esther is an award-winning alumni of Brandeis University and recently received her MLS and Certificate in Archives and Preservation of Cultural Materials from Queens College, CUNY.
Not to be confused with the woman in the Midwest with the same name who has multiple children and sells her art online.
